Nadia is interviewed by CNN reporter “Got time to Talk Ostomy Fashion?”

August 4, 2012

A few weeks ago, I received the following email from a reporter for CNN news.

Hi Nadia,

I’m a reporter for CNN, and I’m working on a piece about fashion challenges faced by people with ostomies, and I found your vlog just so refreshing and positive. Would you have time to answer a few questions via e-mail or hop on the phone for a chat? I’m definitely looking to focus attention on the people who are working to empower women especially to feel beautiful and unashamed, and either hide their accessory, or use it as a talking point and conversation starter.

Kat Kinsman
Managing Editor, CNN

Following this email I was sent a list of questions which varied from fashion with an ostomy to empowering women who live with an ostomy.

The result is the following article posted on the front page of Latest News on CNN.com. Life does not end with an ostomy…in reality it is just beginning. Please follow this link to read the CNN article.

It is with great privilege that I am part of something that brings to the forefront that living with an ostomy does not have to be an end to feeling and looking beautiful, pretty, or confident. In my case, the way I feel now with my ostomy truly has given me the health to look and feel better about myself.

Comfizz product reviews

November 28, 2011

Maggie from Let’s Talk IBD just released a series of videos reviewing various Comfizz ostomy support products. The underwear, belts, and wraps are designed to keep the ostomy bag firmly in place throughout the day or during physical activity. Comfizz is a UK-based company but does ship products worldwide.

In full disclosure, Maggie says she was supplied the products by Comfizz and paid to make the videos.

If you have questions about these products, please contact Maggie and not us, as we have not used any of these products.

Full Frontal Ostomy: Wearing a mini pouch

November 9, 2011

Charis from Full Frontal Ostomy made this video demonstrating how to wear a mini ostomy pouch. These pouches are an option if you don’t want to use a larger pouch and have all that weight on your abdomen, though the drawback, of course, is that they need to be emptied sooner. They are worth a shot if you need something more compact and close to your profile.

Full Frontal Ostomy: Fashion videos

October 26, 2011

Charis, a graduate student in North Carolina, recently had ostomy surgery about 4 weeks ago. She made all of these fashion videos recently showing her fashion tips with an ostomy. She’s doing really well for 4 weeks post surgery, so keep that in mind, those of you who are facing surgery: the recovery time varies from person to person. Now, I’m not sure if her surgery was just a takedown surgery or the full-blown surgery. If you want to ask her questions, contact her at Full Frontal Ostomy, or visit her Facebook page.

On a side note, I hope the guys in the audience aren’t getting too discouraged by all the women and ostomy videos recently. Women, for some reason, seem to be far more open and outgoing when it comes to making videos (at least good videos). Rest assured, we’ll post good videos from all perspectives of people living with colon diseases as we come across them.

Annie, 2011 ostomy underwear and swimwear show model

October 19, 2011

Yet another video from Ostomy Lifestyle featuring a model from their upcoming underwear and swimwear show. Annie’s attitude toward her stoma, that she really doesn’t care what people think or who sees it, is encouraging. Her testimony shows that life can go on just as before after ostomy surgery.

Nadia rocks fashion with an ostomy part 1

October 8, 2011

Prior to my last surgery, I filmed this fashion video. Combining every day items in your closet to give a nice stylish look without compromising fashion when you have an ostomy is easy as 1, 2, 3. I am a huge fashionista and I never feel that having an ostomy will diminish my love for fashion. I may have to work with my ostomy a little bit to find clothes that work best, but there’s always something that will make me feel good and confident. ALL of my outfits are bought on a budget. I shop at very inexpensive discount shopping centers. Never let having an ostomy hold you back from anything–especially looking and feeling good! One of the key components to my wardrobe that has allowed me the flexibility and versatility to wear more clothes has been the Ostomy Secrets Classic Wrap. It’s been my key to fashion freedom! I love it!
