J-Pouch
A J-pouch, or internal reservoir, is made from the end of the small intestine, and replaces a person’s colon and rectum. J-pouch surgery is undergone by IBD or colon cancer patients after the colon is removed, and it replaces the need for an ostomy.
Both Dennis and Nadia had the surgery. Dennis is doing moderately well with his J-pouch; Nadia’s J-pouch failed her and she now has a permanent ileostomy.
