Moorhead man accused of wiping feces on fiancée

April 14, 2010

I know this is juvenile, but I had to share this story with you since, after all, we talk about poop a lot on this website. The following story was reported by the Fargo Forum this morning. You can’t make this stuff up! While the incident did happen in Fargo, where I’m from, the man was from Moorhead, on the other side of the river in Minnesota. It’s one of those stories you aren’t sure if you should laugh or cry for humanity.

By: Forum staff reports, INFORUM

FARGO – Police here arrested a Moorhead man who allegedly wiped feces on his fiancée’s face during an argument early today.

Sgt. Mark Lykken said the engaged couple got into an argument about money while the man was using the bathroom.

The man allegedly reached into the commode and grabbed feces and wiped it on the woman’s face, he said.

The woman’s son attempted to call 911, but the man allegedly grabbed the phone and stopped him, Lykken said.

Police met the woman at a different location and then went to the residence and arrested David Kenneth Neil, 38, on suspicion of interfering with a 911 call, a felony, Lykken said.

Neil was taken to the Cass County Jail. It’s possible he could face an assault charge, Lykken said.

The incident was reported at 3:05 a.m. in the 1600 block of 34th Avenue South.

Minnesotan Kid Great Comebacks Winner

November 21, 2009

Great Comebacks is an awards program recognizing inspiring individuals who have made a difference in the inflammatory bowel disease community. You may remember our friend Nadia won an award earlier this year.

The Comeback Kids program recently announced the 2009 winners, and the winner of the central region was Laurel Schwartz, a camper who I met personally at Camp Oasis this summer. She’s been through a lot with her Crohn’s disease but has really made it her mission to raise money and awareness to fight this disease. Read her story to see how even young people can make a difference if they keep fighting.

Famous GI doctor turns 100

September 27, 2009

Ever wonder why somebody chooses to become a GI doctor? I mean, it isn’t the most glamorous work out there. And yet, the work GIs do is obviously very important, as all of us know.

Here’s an interesting story about Dr. Joseph B. Kirsner, who has worked in the field of gastroenterology for more than 70 years. Dr. Kirsner now works solely as a distinguished professor at the University of Chicago. Since he’s been around so long, he’s seen a lot of change in the field, and has played a part in pioneering much of that change.

Keep fighting,

9-year-old girl has surgery today

September 24, 2009

Here’s a story that unfortunately happens all too often. A 9-year-old girl, Tessa Kilian, is undergoing surgery today to remove her colon after suffering with ulcerative colitis for two years. In that time, she has spent 72 days in the hospital. Quite a travesty, by anybody’s measurements.

I wish this girl all the luck in her life ahead.

If stories like these touch your heart, consider donating to Camp Oasis. I have no clue if this girl has been there or not, but certainly hundreds of kids sick like her go to camp every summer. Please consider donating even a little bit as camp is an amazing form of therapy for these kids.

Keep fighting,
~Dennis
