Coke is bad, but is it good?

January 9, 2013

I was always told that I should avoid carbonated beverages and caffeine, as they are very unhealthy–especially for a person with inflammatory bowel disease.

Coca-cola is bad for your health, but is it good for you too? It is the one drink that has been toted to be the drink that eats away at stomach lining and is all around unhealthy for people to drink, but after reading this article I don’t quite know what to think!

Question: I would like to hear your responses! When something bad for your health can do something good, would you try it?

  1. I drink Coke all the time when I am eating something that could potentially cause a blockage! I have never had one!!! I wonder if it is any carbonated beverage, or just Coke!?!?

  2. It still likely contains high fructose corn syrup and a number of other ingredients that we can’t pronounce. Plus it is unnecessary sugars that your body and gut do not need. I would avoid it with all other processed foods if I were you.

  3. I have learned that a very small amount of white wine seems to do the same thing. I wonder if you just look at the pH of Coke & choose something healthier or more natural & make sure to always have some on hand. It’s a thought. Also: If you want something with that pH, that’s carbonated, but not alcoholic in nature, you could make it yourself with the new, at home, soda machines I’ve seen. Then, you know what’s in it, for sure.

  4. It’s good for giving you a bit of energy when you need the caffeine to stay awake, and if you’re constantly sneezing and coughing, like I am at the moment,it’s good to get that medicine feel that it gives you.
