The Faces of IBD

January 10, 2011

Inflammatory bowel disease affects millions of people worldwide. Anybody suffering from ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease or other bowel diseases can often feel that they are all alone going through this chronic illness. Feelings of isolation, loneliness, and thinking nobody understands are all common and normal emotions, but there are millions of people who do understand.

This thinking is what became the basis of my idea to show Faces of IBD. To show others that are going through this journey, we are not alone. We work in your offices, we go to school with you, we are mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, and friends. Despite a difficult illness, we aspire to live active, full, and happy lives. We are the Faces of IBD, and when we stand up, and show our face, we begin to shed the stigma that surrounds bowel diseases.

Here is a collaboration of video submissions from our viewers. Enjoy this first creation of the Faces of IBD.

Let’s put a face on this illness and show that no matter where you are, who you are, what you do, this disease can try to, but will not, defeat us!

If you are interested in being part of this ongoing project for upcoming sequels, submit your footage with:
-Your name
-Where you are from
-How old you are
-What you do for a living
-What illness you were diagnosed with
-When you were diagnosed
-an Inspirational message to our viewers

Email your footage to:FacesofIBD@UCVlog.com
