Trusting others: Talking to friends and family about your IBD

April 13, 2010

Sometimes it’s very challenging to talk to others about Crohn’s or colitis. Making others comprehend what you are going through is not easy. The issues that arise are often humiliating and not easy to talk about. Our video helps to highlight how to make others connect better with what you are going through. Having support is key and to have support you sometimes have to open yourself  up to others and reveal what’s happening despite the embarrassment. You are sick, this is so difficult, but there are people who do understand.

I understand now that the vulnerability I’ve always felt is the greatest strength a person can have. You can’t experience life without feeling life. What I’ve learned is that being vulnerable to somebody you love is not a weakness, it’s a strength. ~Elisabeth Shue

QUESTION: DO YOU HAVE SUPPORT AROUND YOU? WHO DO YOU FEEL SAFE TELLING? ARE YOU ABLE TO TALK ABOUT YOUR ILLNESS FREELY WITH OTHERS?
