Blood clot complication pt. 2

June 24, 2009

Here’s the second half of the story–the most important part: why this blood clot happened to me and what it means for the future.

I feel pretty good about the whole situation. It’s just one of those things.

Keep fighting,
~Dennis

  2. I hope you are feeling happpy and healthy

  3. hey! We have very similiar cases. I had ulcerative colitis for 8 years until it got out of control and I had an emergency colectomy last december. About 3 months after the colectomy, I went to the er for a possible hernia (not a big deal but I just had a nagging feeling) turns out I had a HUGE blood clot in my femoral artery (right under my stoma sort of) and a smaller one in my kidney. I also had all the testing done and my protien C was also positive (the genetic tendency you spoke of.) I had an IVC filter placed and was put on a heparin drip. When I was discharged I was put on Lovenox. Are you on coumadin/warfarin?My hematologist told me that many dr.s believe that this genetic deficiency has do to with the predisposition for inflamatory processes (like UC.) I had more clot complications and kidney issues. I also have a couple of questions about the takedown ( im supposed to have mine in 2 weeks.) Can I email you? Let me know if this is ok. Thanks!

    • Hi Cat,

I am on coumadin right now, will probably be at least until Feb. 2010. My doctor said too about the genetic disposition towards inflammatory processes.

Certainly you can email me, I’ll answer any questions you have about the takedown surgery. My address is UCVlog@Gmail.com

      Dennis

  4. p.s. I don’t think the blood clot-UC thing is a coincidence!!

  5. Hi Dennis,
I tried commenting before but am not sure it went through. Your videos and honest sharing have helped me every step of the way as I have considered and then gone through a two step colectomy/ileo/j-pouch. I’m almost three weeks post takedown and have already had pouchitis and am currently taking Cipro. I am doing very well and am so happy to no longer have UC. Thank you for all the help and support you are providing so many of us. If you would like to know more about my process (which included complications after surgery #1 of developing a blockage then three abscesses, my blog is caringbridge.org/visit/marciagood.

I hope you have smooth sailing into a bright future. You are a great guy! Marcia
