Three month stoma update
December 3, 2008Something you never think about before having an ileostomy installed is that the shape and size of it changes over time. In as little as three months it looks fairly different than when it was first installed. Today’s video shows what mine is like.
And then there’s only 2 videos left before my next surgery! One on Friday, one on Monday. Hopefully I can keep posting videos while I’m in the hospital and recovering: I have a couple dozen made just chillin in the wings. Seriously! But I won’t promise you any kind of schedule.
Lots of people have been asking me about my next surgery and that’s very encouraging. I’m as excited as everybody else to see how this whole ordeal turns out.
I’m also working on a couple projects on this site that I’ll premiere after all my surgeries are finished and my recovery is underway. Maybe one in January 2009 and then the other in February. It’s a long wait, I know, but it’ll be worth it.
Keep fighting,
-Dennis
Question: How has your stoma changed over time?

My stoma also changed in size the first month or so, and yes the output sometimes can really burn your skin. One time after trying out a new type of pouch I had the wafer come loose on me right after going out to eat. The output during the changing of the pouch was like battery acid spraying all over the place. If others are reading this don’t get frustrated just roll with it and try to laugh about it after the new bag is on.
