My surgery scars
October 11, 2008For the curious and the seeking, this video documents the scars left on me by surgery. Three scars right now, soon a fourth when my ileostomy is taken down. Better than tattoos, scars are reminders of the pain one has gone through to get to where one is today. My surgery was done laparoscopically, meaning the size of the scars was minimized. However, looking back I wouldn’t have been bothered by having surgery done the traditional way with a large cut down my abdomen.

I think of my surgical scars as service stripes, like soldiers have on their uniforms.
I don’t *like* them, but I wouldn’t get rid of them. They remind me of the good things I wouldn’t have in my life without them.
