  1. i have deuodinal erosions and small cluster ulcer, wit severe stomach pain. it took about three flair ups and a stmach enternal exam with a scope to see the deuodnum and the problem. the first meds prescribed were great, but my insurance wouldn’t pay for them. after 4 or 5 generic drugs which all had there own side effects. i’m back on a higher cost name brand. i can relate,

  2. Hi Randy,

Yeah, it’s a tough process to figure everything out. Insurance can be kind of tricky because these problems aren’t necessarily life threatening, but they do take away your life and destroy it if you aren’t treated. Take care and keep watching.

  3. I just wanted to say that last year my husband(56) was diagonoised w/ulcerative colitis. After being treated w/Asacol,other medications and steriods (diabeties type 11)the colitis never got any better. He was in the hospital twice in 2007. Finally, by chance we learned that colitis was the disease of non smokers and ex-smokers(my husband). We learned that there were studies out there that show nicotine may help colitis. I know it sounds cracy but my husband started smoking again and the colitis has improved. The symptoms(the same as you describe) have improved dramatically. I am not suggesting you smoke but you could ask your doctors about the studies.

  4. Hey, I have heard before that nicotine could help colitis. Have you thought of nicotine patches or gum as opposed to actually smoking? My colitis is being taken care of thanks to surgery, but I’m sure his doctors aren’t too happy about the smoking. Of course surgery isn’t for everybody, but if his colitis flares up again I’d consider it. The smoking might help now but it’s an unpredictable disease and could strike back at any time.
