  1. This is a great idea for a blog–well done.

I stopped by to let you know that I’m running a contest to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation over at my blog On the Red Line.

I’d love it if you stopped by and checked it out:

  2. Dennis…was glad to hear from your dad on Thursday…another hurdle accomplished…we are happy the surgery is over and went well…now it’s on to recovery…we wish you great health in the future.

  3. Hi Dennis

Thanks for your site which has informed me more to what is involved with the UC surgery. My son (25) is going through his second bout. We have talked about surgery but are afraid that he may never get rid of the “poop bag”. I have not yet completely viewed all your videos to the end, but I m curious if you got rid of your bag. Feel free to email us!

  4. Dennis:
Please look at this site. celebrationostomysupportbelt.com
My brother was an ostomate and invented this belt.
I have sent many of them to ostomates. This is a belt that would solve a loty of your concerns.
I am going to be offering this for sale on line shortly.
Let me know if I can give you any help or information.
    Jack

  6. My bestfriend was diagnosed with UC a few months ago and we’ve been doing a lot of research online, especially about surgery.I just read on this great blog that Remicade will help with a colon cleanse to avoid a colectomy. Read more: http://www.orderonlinedrugs.com/drug-news/2009/10/13/colitis-patients-rejoice-this-drug-may-help-you-avoid-surgery/.

    • Remicade is indeed a good drug for many people. For some people it works very well. For me, it offered only marginal positive effects for a very short period of time, then did nothing for me. The question many people have, including my doctors at time, was how well Remicade would work long term. This study in the blog you mentioned checked up on patients after a year. But ulcerative colitis is a life long disease. How well will Remicade work after 5 years? 10 years? 30 years? Remicade was only approved for use in ulcerative colitis a few years ago. Hopefully it’s effects continue with extended use.

  9. Wow, I have only just stumbled across this blog and I want to say how amazing and inspirational you both are. I was misdiagnosed with IBS for months until it led to being hospitalised, from there they found out I had ulcerative colitis. I was inside for 2 weeks because steroids didnt work as tablet so had them IV. 10 weeks later prednisolone steroids tablets havent, i’ve just come off them and i am taking azathioprine and pentasa. Just been for a colonoscopy and they think I also have crohns as well. It is difficult being young and having something invisible but painful. I haven’t had the surgery yet but if it gets to needing it I know where to come for the advice. I had depression and anxiety before so it is harder to cope with this but I am taking it day by day.

  10. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and especially a Healthier New Year in 2012!

  11. I’ve got to thank you for all the videos I could see of you about how to keep on fighting with my takedown surgery. I’ve had a really bad time, but your help makes it better!!

  12. Im the lady Steph who posted about my colitis above^^ I have had colectomy surgery 7 months ago and I am feeling ok now. I did have depression, infections, a burst wound, and daily I still have mobility and weakness issues. A thing that made me smile yesterday my boyfriend called it Barry the bag.
